Hugh Rechner Attorney & Counselor at Law Hugh founded the Rechner Law Office in Honesdale in 2000 as a sole proprietor general practice firm. He is currently of counsel to the firm and the firm’s day to day operations and activities are in the hands of his daughter, Christine Rechner. Born in Yugoslavia during WWII, his family of German heritage became refugees and returned to Germany in the last months of the war. In 1949 his family immigrated to the US to begin a new life in a new land. Hugh’s background lends itself to understanding the legal and social needs of the northeast Pennsylvania constituents since he was raised and attended primary school in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. After graduation from Honesdale High School, Hugh joined the US Army in June, 1961 and after serving six years as an enlisted member achieving the rank of SSG E-6 he went to Signal Corps OCS and received a commission as a 2 Lieutenant in the Signal Corps in June 1966. Several months later he attended Helicopter training and thereafter spent two tours of duty in Viet Nam as a Helicopter pilot. While in the service, he worked towards and received a BGS degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1971 and an MBA in Finance from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 1975. He retired from the US Army in 1981 after twenty years, returned to Honesdale and went to work for The Honesdale National Bank where he became Vice President and Trust Officer. Looking for more excitement, Hugh decided that the practice of law was his real life’s avocation, and so in 1994 he began law school at Temple University School of Law. He graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate in June 1997 and again returned to Honesdale where he began practicing law in the fall of that year with another attorney in Honesdale. In 2000 he went on his own in the solo practice of the Rechner Law Office. Additionally, during the years following his military retirement, Hugh has continued as a helicopter and airplane pilot and is familiar with aviation law. The firm has been a general practice firm throughout its existence but has special expertise in family law, real estate, corporate practice, estate planning and practice, and general litigation.
